QI RE-RUGS

Recycle-Reuse-Rejoice

As a self-taught rugmaker, I’ve been making heirloom-quality rugs and wall hangings. A combined technique, employing a Rug Crafters hand shuttle tool and detailed hand binding. Incorporating recycled fabrics lends to their unique durability. From the first stitches on a hobby rug kit sent to me nearly 50 years ago by my mother-in-law, while raising my young family in the wilderness of remote logging camps on the BC coast, I learned the magic of creativity. The results reawakened fond memories of my aunt, who always had a rug on the frame in her homestead farm on Vancouver Island. Like her, I use the materials that come to hand, creating meaningful commemorative pieces by incorporating personal and significant dates or names. We moved to Quadra Island in 1984, and since then I have expanded my skill—openly learning, sharing, and passing on by teaching my craft.
