Helen Lee, Painter

I am Helen Lee

I am a painter.

Flowers and fields have captured my imagination since childhood: the flowers of my mother’s garden and the fields and ancient pathways of the British landscape. Painting deepens my connection to my home on Quadra Island where I have lived for over thirty years.

I find my inspiration close to home: in my garden, my forest walks, the cold ocean swims and wandering the paths and beds of the Old Farm Community Garden. The act of painting deepens my observation of the natural environment and enlivens my spirit as I lose myself in the splash of water, paper and ink.

Using large brushes and trowels I strive to create sweeping gestural marks to convey the joy I experience drawing upon the images embedded in my memory and the island within which I walk.
